Colin Jost named 'Weekend Update' anchor for 'SNL'

The "Weekend Update" anchor for "Saturday Night Live" - one of the most important roles on one of TV's most important shows for, like the cold open, allows "SNL" to actually make pointed fun of politicians - has just been filled: Colin Jost. 

 Remember the name, even if you have not yet seen the face, for he is the one who will replace Seth Meyers, who will leave after Feb. 1 to prepare for the Feb. 27 launch of "Late Night."  

Jost is certainly well know at "SNL" if not yet well known to the viewing public; been on the writing staff nearly a decade, and is a fairly seasoned satand-up.    On March 1, Colin Jost will join Cecily Strong as co-anchor of “Weekend Update.” Following the tradition of Tina Fey and Seth Meyers to the Update desk, Jost has been co-head writer at SNL since 2012 (joined the SNL writing staff in 2005). Some of the characters he's written for Update include Drunk Uncle, The Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started a Conversation With at a Party and Anthony Crispino. He has won three Writers Guild awards, a Peabody Award, and has been nominated for 8 Emmy awards for his work on the show. He has performed stand-up on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” “John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show,” and the “Just for Laughs” Comedy Festivals in Montreal and Chicago. A 2004 graduate from Harvard University, Jost was president of the Harvard Lampoon. He wrote and appears in the upcoming Broadway Video film, "Staten Island Summer," based on his days as a lifeguard.
