We have been neighbors for four years. Having a neighbor is handy because if you need something, you can always count on them.

Joan writes: Hi, my name is Joan and this is my side of the story. The first day of first grade came and I wasn’t officially moved in yet. My dad drove me to my bus stop. When I got there I saw a boy about my age. He was my new neighbor. I said hello. He didn’t respond. His dad was there. He talked to my dad and said they were our neighbors. I thought that was pretty cool. I started talking more to get him to speak. He said nothing. About a year later nothing changed. Two more years went by and I got a dog and a guinea pig. Then this year Jacob got two cats. Having pets is a lot of fun and hard work.

Jacob writes: When I saw Joan for the first time it was the summer of first grade. I thought she was in third grade because she was tall for a first-grader. When I met her for the first time she started talking to me while our dads talked. I could see she wanted to be my friend. Joan was very social. Then her mom came out and asked if she could take a first-day-of-school photo. I didn’t want to get my picture taken but I also didn’t want to be rude. Even though I let her take the photo, I still didn’t smile. In fourth grade Joan got a dog and named him Bailey. When I first met Bailey he was play-biting and barking. I was still scared of dogs barking at me so I tried to stay away. In fifth grade I and Joan are in the same class. So far it’s an exciting year.

In conclusion: We are the same age so we can do a lot of fifth-grade stuff. We have fun and like being neighbors.
