When the power gets cut, the hungry get going. In this case, out of Great Neck last Friday night, which was black with outages and green with fallen trees after a mega-weirdo storm hit the area.

We were off to Roslyn and the restaurant right behind the clock tower, Thyme Restaurant & Café Bar. It was a meal worthy of a spotlight in this time of darkness.

Overlooking the duck pond, the restaurant is cozy and intimate and well-served under executive chef Khaldoun A. Said.

We started with the tomato gazpacho topped with crabmeat relish, a cool bowl full of summer soup. I went on to a dinner special of 3 grilled lamb chops with crispy fingerling potatoes mixed with marinated artichoke and arugula salad. One companion had the grilled swordfish with truffled Yukon Gold potatoes, Brussels sprouts and mint-basil pesto; the other, a sesame-crusted yellowfin tuna, served sliced and rare over haricots verts and endive. All three mains were beautifully presented and quantifiably tender, juicy, and well-seasoned.

Thyme has price-fixed specials and Sunday brunch. It’s at 8 Tower Pl., Roslyn, 516-625-2566.
