Anna Kaplan airs new ad in 3rd CD primary race
Democratic congressional challenger Anna Kaplan Wednesday started airing her second political TV ad, focusing on protecting women’s reproductive rights, in the closing days before the five-way June 28 primary for the party’s nomination for the 3rd District seat.
“As a young Jewish girl, I escaped from Iran,’” says Kaplan, who came to the United States at age 13. “In Iran, women have no reproductive rights. That’s why protecting a woman’s right to choose is so important to me, because we can lose it.”

Kaplan, a North Hempstead Town Board member, continues, “I’ll oppose any effort to defund Planned Parenthood, and I’ll fight to make sure all women have access to over-the-counter emergency contraception.”
The spot ends with Kaplan saying, “I approved this commercial because I know what’s at stake for women in this election.”
Reginald Johnson, Kaplan campaign spokesman, said the spot is their “largest buy” of the campaign and it will run through primary day on several cable channels.
Kaplan’s first spot also highlighted her immigrant background. It began running May 11 — on a day GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump visited Long Island — and criticized his “hateful” rhetoric.
