54 summonses issued to motorcyclists on Sunrise, LIE, cops say
Authorities issued more than 50 summonses at motorcycle safety checkpoints Sunday along the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway and the Long Island Expressway.
Officers stopped 169 motorcycles and issued 54 summonses between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. as the motorists passed through the checkpoints at Exit 55 of Sunrise Highway and between Exits 65 and 66 on the LIE.

Officers stopped 169 motorcycles and issued 54 summonses between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. as the motorists passed through the checkpoints at Exit 55 of Sunrise Highway and between Exits 65 and 66 on the LIE.
Violations included unlicensed operators; suspended licenses; unregistered, uninsured and uninspected vehicles; driving without approved helmets; loud exhaust systems; failure to comply; and other equipment violations, Suffolk officers said.
The crackdown was part of a collection of law enforcement agencies including the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Suffolk police and state police.
