A Holtsville man allegedly linked to the fatal overdose of a Nassau County resident was arrested Wednesday and faces multiple drug charges, police said.

Nicholas Mayfield, 40, was arrested in Uniondale at 4:30 p.m. and charged with third-degree and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, Nassau police said.

He is also charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, as children were present at the time of the arrest, police said.

Police did not disclose the location of Mayfield’s arrest. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Mayfield entered a plea of not guilty and was released with nonmonetary restrictions at his arraignment Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead. A temporary order of protection was also issued in the case.

In June, he was charged with third-degree, fourth-degree and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police confirmed.
