Two Centereach brothers are accused of robbing a gasoline station in Lake Grove late Thursday, Suffolk County police said.

Matthew and William Tait entered the QuickChek station at 2686 Middle Country Road at 11:35 p.m., police said in a news release. Matthew Tait, 26, allegedly displayed what appeared to be a handgun while William Tait, 27, went behind the counter and told the clerk to open the register.

Two Centereach brothers are accused of robbing a gasoline station in Lake Grove late Thursday, Suffolk County police said.

Matthew and William Tait entered the QuickChek station at 2686 Middle Country Road at 11:35 p.m., police said in a news release. Matthew Tait, 26, allegedly displayed what appeared to be a handgun while William Tait, 27, went behind the counter and told the clerk to open the register.

Police said the two stole cigarettes, merchandise and cash. It was not immediately known how much was stolen.

The two fled on foot and police later found the two in Centereach, police said. Both were charged with first-degree robbery. 

While both were scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Central Islip, it was not immediately known if either has an attorney.
