Duane won't run again
New York State Sen. Thomas Duane, the Senate's first openly gay man, has decided not to run for re-election.
The 57-year-old Manhattan Democrat is to announce his decision to retire from the Legislature at a press conference on Monday.

The 57-year-old Manhattan Democrat is to announce his decision to retire from the Legislature at a press conference on Monday.
A spokesman for Duane, Mark Furnish, says the Senator hasn't yet decided what he'll do after his term ends on Dec. 31, but he says he has no plans to run for office again.
Duane was first elected to the State Senate in 1998. He represents the 29th District in Manhattan, which includes the Upper West Side, Chelsea, Greenwich Village and a part of the East Side.
Duane also served for seven years in the New York City Council.
