Hurdles facing those already looking ahead to the weekend include possibly stormy weather Thursday evening that could last into Friday morning, forecasters for the National Weather Service in Islip said.

"There could be an isolated shower across Long Island, but it appears most of it might wait for this evening," said Jay Engle, weather service meteorologist.

An approaching warm front prompted the service to issue a hazardous weather warning for that period, advising that heavy rain could cause localized flooding.

"Showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop through this evening becoming more widespread. Rain will be heavy at times and there is the potential for localized flooding," the service said in a Thursday evening statement..

After another possible round of storms, sunshine should return later on Friday and the high is expected to reach about 86, setting the stage for more of the same during the weekend, the weather service said.

The service said it did not anticipate issuing any hazardous weather alerts through Wednesday.

Sunny skies are forecast for Saturday and Sunday, with the thermometer registering in the upper 80s, according to the weather service.

And humidity was likely  to remain in the comfort zone.
