Scattered showers, gusty winds overnight before sunny Wednesday, NWS says
Scattered, light showers were moving through Long Island Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service said, and there was a chance for more of them overnight.
The weather service said there is a 60% chance more rain will fall overnight, along with possible thunderstorms, and gusty winds up to 30 mph. But otherwise it predicts a mostly cloudy night that will usher in a sunny Wednesday.

Wednesday will likely be the warmest of the next seven days, with thermometers hitting 87 in some places.
After that, look for daytime highs in the high 70s, and night time lows in the mid- to upper-60s, the weather service said.
Thursday is forecast to be mostly cloudy, with chances for rain rated at 60% for Thursday afternoon and evening and about equal chances for Friday.
But the weekend should be bright, sunny and clear with highs close to 80, forecasters said.
There was a high risk of strong rip currents at South Shore beaches Tuesday, with a more moderate risk Wednesday.
