PAKISTAN: Gunmen kill 8 at army camp

Eight people were killed in an attack Monday on a Pakistani army camp near the eastern city of Gujrat, where thousands of Islamists protested the decision to reopen the NATO supply line to Afghanistan, police said. Gunmen riding in a car and on motorcycles killed seven soldiers and a policeman who tried to intercept them.

NETHERLANDS: Bosnian's threats described

Gen. Ratko Mladic threatened to wipe out the civilian populations of enclaves in eastern Bosnia in a chilling foreshadowing of the Srebrenica massacre, a former UN official told the Yugoslav war crimes tribunal Tuesday. David Harland, the second prosecution witness at the trial in The Hague of the former Bosnian Serb military chief, said he met often with Mladic during the 1992-95 war and noticed him becoming increasingly belligerent as the conflict went on, including threatening to kill civilians in the UN-protected enclaves, which included Srebrenica. Mladic faces 11 charges for allegedly masterminding atrocities in the war that culminated in the 1995 massacre of 8,000 Muslim men in Srebrenica. He denies wrongdoing. Harland has testified at other tribunal trials, including those of Mladic's political master, Radovan Karadzic, and Slobodan Milosevic, former Yugoslav president. The tribunal has proved massive crimes were committed, but it can be hard to tie such atrocities to senior leaders. That is the challenge for Mladic's prosecutors.

BRITAIN: Wealthy woman found dead

American-born Eva Rausing, one of Britain's richest women, was found dead in her west London home and a man was arrested in the case, police said Tuesday. Rausing, 48, was the wife of Hans Kristian Rausing, heir to the TetraPak fortune his father built, creating a successful manufacturer of laminated cardboard drink containers. Police said they arrested a 49-year-old man Monday on suspicion of drug possession and a subsequent search of an address in the Belgravia neighborhood turned up Rausing's body later that day.
