New York Jets coach Rex Ryan says he had “filthy” movement on his ceremonial first pitch before the New York Mets’ game earlier this week, and used video to compare his mechanics to Washington Nationals rookie Stephen Strasburg.
Ryan opened his news conference Thursday after practice talking about Tuesday night’s toss, which easily reached the plate but was not caught by his catcher, general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Ryan opened his news conference Thursday after practice talking about Tuesday night’s toss, which easily reached the plate but was not caught by his catcher, general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Ryan wore a No. 30 Mets jersey — a Nolan Ryan throwback, he said — and played video of his pitch. On the right side of the split-screen was Ryan making his toss, and on the left was Strasburg, who fanned 14 in his big league debut Tuesday.
Ryan says the difference between Strasburg’s success and his own clearly was the catcher.
