Kent State rolls past LIU, 63-10

KENT, Ohio — Collin Schlee threw two touchdown passes, Marquez Cooper added two on the ground and Kent State scored 28 second-quarter points on its way to its first victory of the season, 63-10, over Long Island on Saturday.
Schlee’s 50-yard strike to Devontez Walker in the end zone started the scoring.

Schlee’s 50-yard strike to Devontez Walker in the end zone started the scoring.
The Sharks tied it on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Derek Green to Owen Glascoe.
Kent State’s 28-point second quarter followed, including Gavin Garcia’s punt block that J.B. Awolowo returned 34 yards for a 35-10 halftime lead.
Schlee threw for 199 yards on 10-for-12 passing.
Green was 14-for-18 passing for 172 yards with Glascoe making five catches for 101 yards for the Sharks (0-3). Pat Bowen had 11 carries for 43 yards and Luca Stanzani had four carries for 31 yards.
"We did some good things," coach Ron Cooper said. "The best thing is we came out of this three-game swing pretty healthy. We know what we've got to do now.
"I knew Kent State would be hard to stop. They opened up with two big-time opponents in Oklahoma and Washington and still moved the ball against them. We thought that would happen. But the guys played with effort."
LIU, coming off earlier losses to Toledo and Villanova, will host former NEC member Bryant next Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Golden Flashes (1-2), with one of the toughest early-season schedules in FBS, opened with losses to then-No. 7 Oklahoma and Washington and play at top-ranked Georgia next Saturday.
