Sophomore Eugeneia McPherson hit four three-pointers and scored a career-high 20 points as No. 20 St. John's ran away from Seton Hall, 71-52, in the Big East opener for both teams at Carnesecca Arena last night.

The North Babylon graduate shot 8-for-11 from the field and made three steals.

The North Babylon graduate shot 8-for-11 from the field and made three steals.

Shenneika Smith added 13 points and 10 rebounds and Coco Hart chipped in 12 points on 6-for-6 shooting.

St. John's (8-1, 1-0) took control early and bolted to a 34-22 halftime lead.

Seton Hall (5-5, 0-1) tried to a go of it after the break and went on a 5-2 run to cut the Red Storm lead to 36-27.

But Sky Lindsay hit two free throws and Hart followed with a layup, sparking a 22-3 run that left St. John's up 58-40 with 9:27 to go.

It was the seventh straight win for St. John's.

Holy Trinity graduate Terry Green led Seton Hall with 11 points and Kandice Green added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
