By GREGG SARRA. SPRING BIG 10. 1. CHAMINADE BOYS LACROSSE The Flyers are in the midst of an eight-day break between a 10-5 win over St. Anthony's and its next game against Iona Prep. Two days after that, the Flyers (5-0) play West Islip. Matt Kavanagh leads them with 12 goals into a difficult upcoming schedule.. 2. BAY SHORE SOFTBALL A 4-0 week for the defending Class AA state champions included Taylor McGowan striking out a career-high 16 against Northport and Erika Traina earning her first varsity win after striking out nine in a 19-2 win over Central Islip.. 3. WARD MELVILLE BOYS LACROSSE The Patriots' victory over Garden City on April 2, then the nation's No. 2-ranked team by Inside Lacrosse, served notice that the race for Suffolk Division I supremacy will be fierce. Ward Melville faces a big-time challenge this week when it visits Smithtown West on Tuesday night.. 4. LINDENHURST BASEBALL The Bulldogs, the defending state Class AA champions, took two of three from perennial playoff qualifier Connetquot in a tough opening series. Connetquot ended the Bulldogs 21-game winning streak.. 5. GARDEN CITY GIRLS LACROSSE The Trojans have affirmed their standing with wins over powerhouses Farmingdale and St. Anthony's. Last week they had two decisive victories, including an 18-6 blowout of John Jay-Cross River in a non-league game Saturday.. 6. GARDEN CITY BOYS LACROSSE The Trojans lost their second in three games in a 7-5 decision to Mayland power St. Paul's on Saturday. Junior Devin Dwyer had a career high eight assists in a 14-7 win over San Ramon Valley High (Calif.) on Thursday.. 7. COLD SPRING HARBOR BOYS TENNIS Josh Levine and Eric Ambrosio are among the best singles players on Long Island but it was the second doubles team of Conor Mullins and Jon Paris that helped CSH eke out a 4-3 win against defending NYC private league champs Horace Mann.. 8. ST. ANTHONY'S GIRLS LACROSSE The Friars rebound from an April 2 loss to Garden City with an impressive, 18-7 win over St. John the Baptist on Wednesday in which 14 players got a point. St. Anthony's has won three straight Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA titles.. 9. EAST MEADOW SOFTBALL It was an impressive week for Jamie Laird and the defending county champions. After wins over Carey, Long Beach, Amanda Carlin earned the win against top-seeded Farmingdale and Laird went 2-3 with a grand slam in a 10-9 slugfest win over MacArthur.. 10. CHAMINADE BOYS GOLF The dominant team of the CHSAA thus far, the Flyers had five golfers shoot under 40 for nine holes in a match against St. John the Baptist.. Matt Schultz, Smithtown West, boys lacrosse: The attack scored seven goals and had two assists in the Bulls 13-4 victory over East Islip.. JOHN CONNORS, Chaminade, boys lacrosse: The goalie made 16 saves to help the Flyers defeat archrival St. Anthony's, 10-5, on April 2 in a matchup of nationally ranked teams.. LINDSAY TAYLOR, Kings Park, softball: Followed her perfect game (14 strikeouts) against Harborfields with a perfect game (18 strikeouts) against Huntington.. Ashley Cole, Carle Place, softball: Allowed one hit, struck out 19 and also went 4-for-4 with three RBIs in a 12-0 win over Locust Valley.. SHANNON GILROY, Northport, girls lacrosse: Gilroy totaled 26 goals and seven assists in Northport's three wins last week.. NICOLE SINACORI, Long Island Lutheran, girls lacrosse: The freshman scored eight goals, including the winner, in LuHi's 17-16 victory over Rye Country Day.. Ieshawn Johnson, Baldwin, track: He set a school record in the discus with a throw of (175 feet, 71/2 inches) in a Conference I Meet and set a meet record at the Knight-Time Invite with a toss of 164-5..
