Capitals call Derek Dorsett's hit on Mike Green 'a dangerous play'

The lack of penalties on the Rangers in Game 6 -- none until the scrum at the final buzzer Sunday -- irritated the Capitals, especially after what they saw as a slew foot by Derek Dorsett with 6:14 left in the third period.

Mike Green retaliated and was penalized for cross-checking Dorsett in the mouth.

"Tonight shouldn't have been so lopsided," Braden Holtby said, referring to the 5-0 advantage in power plays for the Rangers. "We all know that, everyone sees that. That part is frustrating, but I thought our guys did a very good job of keeping their composure through it. We won't use it as an excuse, we'll be prepared for [Monday night]. Our PK is holding us in the series."

Capitals coach Adam Oates said that the Rangers forward's hit on Green prior to the crosscheck "looked like a slew foot, [a] very dangerous play."

Holtby thought it was clear. "The one that we all had a problem with, obviously, was the one on Greenie, that's a play that should be reviewed. It's only because Greenie's one of the best skaters in the world that he didn't fall on his back there. It's a dirty slew foot and we're shorthanded from it."

Defenseman Karl Alzner told reporters: "I completely agree. Very, very dangerous."

Said Dorsett: "I think when I'm playing hard, I can get under the skin of other guys."

After the final horn, Derek Stepan and Dan Girardi were assessed minors for roughing as a scrum ensued in the corner to the left of Henrik Lundqvist. But John Carlson and Troy Brouwer also were whistled for roughing, bringing the total penalties to 7-2.

The Rangers won 27 of 45 faceoffs (60 percent) . . . John Moore's assist was his first playoff point . . . Brad Richards played just 9:34 on 10 shifts . . . Chris Kreider, subbing for the injured Ryane Clowe, got only 4:05 of ice time.
