Post-Game Xtra: Quotes, Stats, Comments

                     Well, we'll be back in Ottawa Sunday evening for Monday's Game 6...

                     A key, late turning point in Game 4 came when Nick Foligno was sent to the box with 5:25 left in regulation for kicking out Ryan Callahan’s skate in a battle in mid-ice. The call was tripping; Foligno threw his arms in the air in dismay, and the Rangers had a chance to respond with a regulation win. But they could not register a shot on goal, and were 0-for-the-last 5 on the power play.

                       The Rangers, who blocked 30 shots to the Senators’ eight, were gassed in the third period, and John Tortorella’s time out with just over a minute left after an icing may have prevented a loss in regulation. Dan Girardi was on ice for 31:17 and Ryan McDonagh 28:14.

                    In the beginning of the third period, with the game tied at 2, Tortorella broke up the Brad Richards-Marian Gaborik combination, moving Gaborik (2 shots) to a line with Derek Stepan and Artem Anisimov, then rejoined them in overtime.

                      If you count the 30 blocks, 31 shots on goal and 24 misses, the Senators had 85 shot attempts. The Rangers had 33 shots on goal, 8 shots blocked and 8 misses for 49 attempts.

                   The game was called pretty closely by referees Eric Furlatt and Francois St. Laurent (12 minor penalties), presumably under orders by the league to prevent more of the escalation of dirty hits and brawls that have been the over-riding story of the first round of the post-season.   Don't see why Marc Staal's leveling of Jason Spezza, who came into Staal with his head down, should be any issue.

                   Brad Richards, named the third star, had a team-high eight shots and six blocks…Erik Karlsson had six for Ottawa…Anton Stralman (2), Ryan Callahan (3) and Brian Boyle (3) have seven of the Rangers nine goals in four games….In his second NHL game, Chris Kreider played just 3:29, Stu Bickel just 3:33. Kreider, Ruslan Fedotenko, Artem Anisimov and John Mitchell had zero shots.

                 Lundqvist, who noted that the Rangers had lost two in OT, is 1-7 in is career in post-season OTs.  Just a little screen, and "I picked (Turris' winner) up too late and once I saw it, I knew I was in trouble."

                      The Senators hadn’t won a home playoff game since June 2007 and celebrated wildly afterward…..Coach Paul MacLean on Craig Anderson. “He was our best player. He was outstanding after the first two goals and kept us in.”

                     I had predicted Rangers in six. But this could go 7....Rangers are off  tomorrow, practicing Friday at MSG...
