Artemi Panarin's scoring drought continues after his goal is overturned in Rangers' loss to Oilers

There was a look of relief on the face of Artemi Panarin after he scored on the power play at 10:48 of the first period to give the Rangers a two-goal lead Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers at the Garden. The goal broke what had been an 11-game drought for Panarin.

Except it didn’t, because it wasn’t a goal.

Video review determined that the Rangers were offside entering the zone, and the goal was nullified. It was the first of three video reviews, all of which went against the Rangers, in what ended up being a demoralizing 4-3 loss.

Another shot by Panarin, a one-timer from the left circle at 18:31 of the period, was stopped by Edmonton goalie Jack Campbell, but Panarin thought the puck had crossed the goal line as Campbell’s momentum took him backward into the net. A video of that one didn’t find any evidence to overturn the ruling of no goal.

Video of Panarin showed him appearing to say “that went in’’ before the review. Asked afterward if he believed he had scored, he said, “I think yes. But I didn’t see the video. In the game, it happened fast. I was pretty far away, so it’s hard to say.’’

Panarin admitted he is frustrated by not scoring.

“Yeah, especially when I can score last [12] games,’’ he said. “Post or something. It’s always something. But it’s not first year in hockey. So I’ll keep doing what I usually do and try not to lose the confidence. That’s more important thing.’’

Blue notes

The Rangers dressed all 13 forwards for warmups, including Vitali Kravtsov, who last played Nov. 12 in Detroit, but Kravtsov again was a scratch. He has sat out the last seven games . . . Gerard Gallant did make one lineup change, inserting defenseman Libor Hajek in place of Zac Jones.
