Senior lifestyle host Elisa DiStefano checks out how permanent bracelets are done at Hitch in Babylon.

If you want to commemorate a special occasion or find a way to treat yourself, it might be time to get trendy with a piece of permanent jewelry. It's as easy as picking out a chain style, getting measured and having the chain welded on at its two ends. The process is painless and only takes a few minutes to complete.

“It's the new personalized friendship bracelets,” says Danielle Roth, owner of Gray's Jewelers Bespoke in St. James. “It's a chance to have an experience with a loved one, whether it's mother and daughter, husband and wife, girlfriend and boyfriend, sisters or other couples who feel that the piece of permanent jewelry reminds them of each other.”

Permanent jewelry comes in a variety of choices like bracelets, necklaces, rings and even toe rings.

“When people don't understand what permanent jewelry is about, I tell them it's their chance to create their own piece that's uniquely their own. They don't necessarily have to be coupled up, it can even be for one person,” says Imani Serge, co-owner of Fuse in Glen Cove. “Custom-made jewelry has always been around, but this gives full control to the client, not the jewelers.”

The jewelry can be taken off if needed. “If you have to take one off for an MRI or whatever reason, you can cut the jump ring/round link with a nail clipper, save your bracelet and come back to us and we will weld it back on for free,” says Maria Rivera of BodiLynx.

Most of your time will be spent picking the chain out and then it takes about 10 minutes to size and weld. Here are some locations where you can get permanent jewelry on Long Island:
