Amanda Schain, a senior at Plainview-Old Bethpage/JFK High School, is the June, 2015, Long Island Scholar Artist

Amanda Schain, a senior at Plainview-Old Bethpage/JFK High School, used Art as a catalyst that changed her life. She shares, I lose track of time, and I feel a sense of serenity. If Im having a bad day or stressed from school, drawing tells me that there's something I'm good at and helps me stay positive.

Amanda has had her artwork exhibited in several shows including the Art Supervisors Associations annual exhibit at Adelphi University. She was awarded Outstanding ratings at the Long Islands Best Young Artists show held at the Heckscher Museum for her work in colored pencil.  Her growth and confidence has blossomed with her success and recognition.

Outside of her artistic endeavors, Amanda balances her academics with providing extra help to her peers, holding a part-time job, volunteering at a soup kitchen, and working with children with disabilities.
