Police said the brother and sister, ages 21 and 25, were trying to return to their Church Street apartment at 6:40 p.m. Friday when Gregory Angulo, 41, met them and tried to block them from entering. A Baldwin man has been arrested on charges that he assaulted a brother and sister who were returning to their apartment, Nassau police said.

Police said the brother and sister, ages 21 and 25, were trying to return to their Church Street apartment at 6:40 p.m. Friday when Gregory Angulo, 41, met them and tried to block them from entering. Angulo was inside the apartment with a relative of the siblings, police said, and it was unclear what his relationship was to the victims, or why he was blocking their entry.

The siblings forced their way inside, and Angulo became violent and punched the woman in the face, police said.

The male victim then fought with Angulo, who pulled a knife and slashed him across the arm before fleeing, police said.

The male victim received a significant cut on his arm, while the female received bruises to her face, police said. Both were taken to a hospital for treatment and released.

Police conducted an investigation and arrested Angulo, of 966 Ocean Ave., on Saturday. He was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. At his arraignment on Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead, Angulo was ordered held on $40,000 bond or $20,000 cash bail. His next court date is on Wednesday.
