Approximately 70 residents were evacuated Monday when a fire broke out in a Great Neck Plaza apartment building, Nassau police said.

The fire, at a building on Chapel Place, was reported around 1:45 p.m. No one was hurt, police said.

The Red Cross responded to assist the displaced residents, police said.

Volunteers from the Red Cross helped "open a reception center, where displaced families could gather in a cool place and receive food and water as they waited for information," said spokeswoman Desiree Reiner.

All 45 units were evacuated, and 11 families — 20 adults and a child — received financial assistance, Reiner said.

The fire is not believed to be suspicious. The investigation is continuing, police said.
