Nassau County is holding a gun buyback session at a Uniondale church Saturday.

County Executive Edward Mangano and District Attorney Kathleen Rice are sponsoring the program at Grace Cathedral Church, 944 Jerusalem Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon, Nassau County police said in a news release.

Individuals can anonymously exchange operable unlicensed guns for cash, police said. Rifles bring $100, handguns $200 and assault rifles $400.

Licensed guns, BB guns, air pistols, long guns and replicas are not eligible for the program and will not be accepted.

Guns transported by car must be in the trunk, unloaded and put in a plastic bag, paper bag or in a shoe box, the release said.

Mangano said in the release that the program has removed more than 2,000 guns from the streets "before they fell into the wrong hand."

Forfeiture funds from the Nassau County Police Department and the district attorney's office are utilized to fund the program.
