A mini school bus caught fire late Tuesday morning in Westbury, but the driver escaped without injury and there were no children inside the vehicle, Nassau police said.

The driver reportedly pulled over on westbound Stewart Avenue, west of Merrick Avenue, after experiencing an engine fire, police said.

A mini school bus caught fire late Tuesday morning in Westbury, but the driver escaped without injury and there were no children inside the vehicle, Nassau police said.

The driver reportedly pulled over on westbound Stewart Avenue, west of Merrick Avenue, after experiencing an engine fire, police said.

Fire department personnel responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze.

Photos from the scene show the small yellow bus almost completely charred as firefighters douse it with water.

Westbound Stewart Avenue near the fire was closed but has since reopened, police said.
