Suffolk County police homicide detectives have identified the 5-year-old Farmingville girl who was found unconscious Saturday night in the backyard swimming pool of an Islip home.

Carissa Walker was found in the pool behind a house on Columbine Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m., police said Sunday. She was pulled from the pool by people attending parties in the area, and one administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The child was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said there was a block party and people were going back and forth among participating households.

A woman who answered the door at the Islip home where the girl was found declined to comment.

Neighbors said firefighters who live on the block rushed to the house to help the girl until rescuers could arrive.

A neighbor said the community has held the block party for about 17 years.
