A 67-year-old Commack man suffered serious injuries Saturday night at a block party in the hamlet when a "mortar-style firework" exploded and struck him in the face, Suffolk police said.

About 10 p.m., according to police, the man, who was not immediately identified, was hit by the firework at the party on Diellen Court.

About 10 p.m., according to police, the man, who was not immediately identified, was hit by the firework at the party on Diellen Court.

The victim was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening burns and cuts to his face and head, police said.
