One man was killed and a woman was seriously injured when an SUV struck at least seven cars in Sayville Sunday night, Suffolk County Police said.

Police received a 911 call about 5:15 p.m. reporting a "multicar" crash on West Main Street, police said.

A 46-year-old man driving a Chevrolet TrailBlazer west on West Main Street hit five cars, collided with an eastbound sedan and a westbound Honda Accord, then crashed into a utility pole near 290 W. Main St., police said.

The 82-year-old man driving the sedan died at the scene. Police withheld his name, pending notification of his family.

A 79-year-old woman in that car was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore and was listed in serious condition, police said Sunday night.

The Accord's driver was not injured and refused to be taken to a hospital.

The TrailBlazer's driver, whom police did not identify, was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in Patchogue with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police said the investigation continues, and no charges have been filed.

It was not immediately known if any of the occupants of the first five vehicles struck were injured.
