Firefighters are battling a large brush fire that started Sunday afternoon in Oakdale, officials said.

The blaze, in the woods near the West Oak Recreation Club, near the intersection of Cypress Lane and Spruce Drive in Oakdale, was reported to authorties about 4:10 p.m., a Suffolk police spokeswoman said.

A dispatcher at the West Sayville Fire Department said late Sunday afternoon the fire is “still very active” and he was not sure if there were any injuries.
