Police said Kidd's vehicle, a 2010 Cadillac Escalade, struck the pole and went into woods near Cobb Road and Little Cobb Road in Water Mill at 1:56 a.m.

Kidd, 39, was the only occupant of the vehicle, police said. He was taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, then transported to police headquarters for processing on charges of driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance, police said.

On Saturday night, Kidd attended a benefit at a private residence in East Hampton.

Kidd signed with the Knicks on July 12, becoming the team's point guard.
