From Sunday through Thursday the Long Island Expressway in both directions will be closed into the overnight hours in the towns of Islip and Brookhaven to allow for bridge repair and construction, the state Department of Transportation said Friday.

Affected from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. will be lanes from Exit 59, Ocean Avenue, to Exit 63, North Ocean Avenue, the DOT said in a news release.

Westbound traffic will be detoured to the north service road at Exit 63, and eastbound traffic to the south service road at Exit 59, the DOT said.

"These detours and closures are needed to repair damage that was caused by a truck that hit the Waverly Avenue bridge, and also for work on the bridge rehabilitation construction projects for Ronkonkoma Avenue and Waverly Avenue bridges," the DOT said in the news release.
