Eastbound LIE reopens in Suffolk after truck strikes overpass, cops say

Eastbound lanes on the Long Island Expressway between exits 59 and 61 were reopened shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Thursday after they were shut for emergency road work, Suffolk police said.
The shutdown between Ronkonkoma and Holbrook allowed transportation inspectors to examine the Ronkonkoma overpass, which was struck by a tractor trailer at 2:55 p.m., police said in a statement.

The tractor trailer has been removed, police said Thursday evening.
“No one was injured and three cars were damaged from debris,” said Assistant Commissioner Justin S. Meyers.
The bridge “sustained very minimal damage,” a transportation department spokesman said. Another inspection crew will check it again on Friday, he said.
