DOT announces road work in East Hampton
State transportation officials announced they are using travel lane shifts to accommodate East End traffic as workers resume repaving 15 miles of road on Route 27, or Montauk Highway, in the Town of East Hampton this week.
The $13.8 million Department of Transportation project that aims to repair the roadway between Route 114 and South Etna Avenue was on hiatus throughout the winter.

State transportation officials announced they are using travel lane shifts to accommodate East End traffic as workers resume repaving 15 miles of road on Route 27, or Montauk Highway, in the Town of East Hampton this week.
The $13.8 million Department of Transportation project that aims to repair the roadway between Route 114 and South Etna Avenue was on hiatus throughout the winter.
Transportation officials said travel lane shifts are underway wherever possible on shorter sections of the road instead of closing lanes to minimize the impact the construction may have on residents and businesses. One travel lane in each direction will remain open to motorists and the work will be conducted mainly during off-peak hours.
Officials said the project will result in new asphalt and fresh pavement markings that include bike lane striping and more visible pedestrian crosswalks. The work is expected to be done in May, weather permitting.
The daytime travel lane shifts will be in effect Monday through Friday, between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., weather permitting. Work on busy intersections and downtown areas of Montauk, Amagansett and East Hampton villages will be done at night, the state DOT said.
