A stranger in a truck made “crude remarks” to a 14-year-old girl riding her bicycle in Northport on Monday, prompting her to call 911, Northport police said.

The girl was riding at the intersection of Stone Court and Stone Drive about 6 p.m. when the man in a small dark red pickup truck, possibly a Nissan or Toyota, drove up to her, police said.

He made “several inappropriate comments” and she became frightened, Northport police said Tuesday in a news release. She dropped her bike and ran away on foot before calling 911.

Northport police notified Suffolk and Asharoken police departments and the Northport-East Northport School District.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Peter Hayes of the Northport Police Department at 631-261-7500.

The man was in his early 30s with dark hair and clean shaven. He was wearing a yellow T-shirt and sunglasses.
