A pedestrian was struck by a car Thursday night in North Lindenhurst and later died, Suffolk County police said.

Police identified the victim as Shameek Brown, 21, of Amityville. He was transported by North Lindenhurst Fire Department ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where police said he was pronounced dead.

A pedestrian was struck by a car Thursday night in North Lindenhurst and later died, Suffolk County police said.

Police identified the victim as Shameek Brown, 21, of Amityville. He was transported by North Lindenhurst Fire Department ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where police said he was pronounced dead.

Police said Ray Purse, 29, of Copiague, was driving his 2007 Nissan north on New Highway when he struck Brown at about 9:50 p.m. near the intersection with New Horizons Boulevard. The accident location is on the border of North Amityville and North Lindenhurst.

Police said Purse remained at the scene and was not charged. He also was not injured in the crash. His Nissan was impounded as part of the continuing investigation.
