A 68-year-old Bellport man died after he was hit by a car while crossing an East Patchogue street Wednesday evening, Suffolk police said.

William Burrows was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital after the approximately 9:28 p.m. collision, police said.

A 68-year-old Bellport man died after he was hit by a car while crossing an East Patchogue street Wednesday evening, Suffolk police said.

William Burrows was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital after the approximately 9:28 p.m. collision, police said.

Burrows had been walking north, across South Country Road by Dunton Avenue, when he was struck, according to the police.

The driver, who remained at the scene, had been headed west behind the wheel of a 2021 Honda CRV, police said.

Burrows is at least the fifteenth pedestrian injured or killed on Long Island since mid-June.
