Wind advisory for Long Island
A wind advisory is in effect for Long Island from noon Monday until 3 a.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service in Upton said.
Westerly winds between 15 mph and 25 mph are expected for most of Long Island Monday, with gusts in the afternoon up to 45 mph.

Westerly winds between 15 mph and 25 mph are expected for most of Long Island Monday, with gusts in the afternoon up to 45 mph.
The service said winds will become northwesterly Monday evening, increasing to between 20 mph and 30 mph, again with gusts up to around 45 mph.
The advisory also covers portions of New Jersey, New York City, Westchester County and the Hudson Valley region.
The weather service said the high winds could cause tree branches to fall and loose items, such as unsecured garbage cans, to bounce around.
Also, commuters are advised that "winds this strong can make driving difficult . . . especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution," the service said.
