Law outlines LIA's new priorities

Kevin Law said he would revitalize the Long Island Association when he takes over as the organization's president Sept. 1.

Law is still chief executive of the Long Island Power Authority, but at times it seems he's already at the LIA.

In the last week Law headed a group of political and business leaders who wrote to the chief executive of Astellas Pharma, the Tokyo-based company that bought OSI Pharmaceuticals Inc. of Melville, urging Astellas to keep OSI on Long Island. OSI is in the process of moving to Ardsley, in Westchester County.

Law also issued a news release saying the LIA supports Wyandanch Rising, a project to rebuild the area's downtown, and the reopening of an LIRR station at Republic Airport.

Law replaces Matthew Crosson, who left the post in mid-March after serving for 16 years. Crosson is now president of the Greater Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. According to some in the business community, the LIA appeared to lack vigor during the last year or so. When he was named to the LIA job, Law said he would change that.

The rebuilding of downtown Wyandanch and the reopening of a rail station at Republic are major issues for the business community, he said.
