The Long Island Lizards Lacrosse team is holding tryouts Saturday for speedy boys 11 to 16 years old to become ball boys for the team’s upcoming season.

This is the first year the team has opened up tryouts to the public.

“There are going to be drills, chasing balls, anything that’s going to be involved in their duties on game day,” said Lizards General Manager Casey Hilpert.

The tryouts will be at the Safety Town parking lot at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Registration starts at 9 a.m. in the picnic area opposite baseball field No. 1. Tryouts will follow from 10 a.m. to noon.

Anyone interested in trying out must bring a helmet, mouthpiece, lacrosse stick, pads, gloves, cup and sneakers -- no cleats.

Hilpert said prospective ball boys must be able to make every home practice, which are held on Thursdays. They must also attend most home games, scheduled for April 28, June 1 and 23, July 7, 14, 21 and 28 at James M. Shuart Stadium at Hofstra University.

The team’s first practice is next Friday, April 27, at 8 p.m., with its first game the day after.

Tryouts will be held rain or shine.
