Oyster Bay artist bringing pearls to hamlet
An Oyster Bay artist has teamed with the hamlet’s Main Street Association in an effort to bring a public sculpture of a string of pearls to Theodore Roosevelt Park.
Jerelyn Hanrahan, who runs the downtown studio Atelier, envisions the project as an interactive public art piece consisting of 19 “pearls” that will be exhibited at significant sites in the hamlet before being assembled in the park.

An Oyster Bay artist has teamed with the hamlet’s Main Street Association in an effort to bring a public sculpture of a string of pearls to Theodore Roosevelt Park.
Jerelyn Hanrahan, who runs the downtown studio Atelier, envisions the project as an interactive public art piece consisting of 19 “pearls” that will be exhibited at significant sites in the hamlet before being assembled in the park.
If completed, the sculpture would be 40 feet long and 20 feet wide — with each 30-inch-tall pearl, made of fiberglass or concrete, serving as a bench.
Completion is contingent on a fundraising campaign. With seed money from the Main Street Association and the New York Foundation for the Arts, organizers said they are seeking sponsorships of at least $3,000 per “pearl.”
