S. Huntington HS adds WTC beam to memorial

St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington has added a 15-foot steel beam from the Twin Towers to its Sept. 11 memorial on campus.
The piece was installed Aug. 16 on a permanent base directly behind the Sept. 11 memorial that was installed in 2001, after the attack on the World Trade Center.

St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington has added a 15-foot steel beam from the Twin Towers to its Sept. 11 memorial on campus.
The piece was installed Aug. 16 on a permanent base directly behind the Sept. 11 memorial that was installed in 2001, after the attack on the World Trade Center.
The memorial features a 21-foot-high crucifix and bricks imbedded in the foundation bearing the names of four parents of students and seven alumni who perished in the terror attacks.
In September 2009, school officials applied to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to secure an artifact from the World Trade Center and last year was notified it was one of 1,500 institutions, towns, agencies and foreign countries selected.
The landscaping around the shrine is slated to be completed by Sept. 9 and on Sept. 12, the first day of school, it will be blessed during a ceremony.
The public is welcome to visit the memorial, but school administrators ask that visitors wait until after school hours and after school events are completed.
