An outspoken Susan Sarandon voiced her ongoing support for the Occupy Wall Street movement last night at the Hamptons International Film Festival, objecting to media portrayals of the protesters as slackers and Deadhead-types.

"I think it's fabulous that they care enough to be there," Sarandon said at the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, even as 100 or so Occupy sympathizers gathered outside nearby. "Some of them do have jobs and some of them don't, just like a lot of people in the country don't have jobs."

Her interviewer, fellow actor Bob Balaban, steered the talk mostly toward Sarandon's long film career, from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" to her latest, "Jeff, Who Lives at Home," which opened the festival.

Earlier, Matthew Broderick was interviewed by Alec Baldwin at Guild Hall while Christie Brinkley sat in the audience.

The veteran actors, whose careers overlapped when Broderick appeared on Baldwin's comedy series "30 Rock," compared notes on acting styles, directors (both worked with the late John Hughes) and meeting Marlon Brando.

Other celebrities scheduled to show up at various parties and functions were Blythe Danner, actress Penelope Ann Miller (who appears in the closing-night film, "The Artist," screening tonight), the model Lauren Bush and the designer Calvin Klein. The festival announces its winning films Sunday night and continues through Monday.
