Jordan Fonseca, Greenport turn up the intensity

It was North Fork vs. South Fork and for a while, the table was set for an upset.
But Greenport brought out all the sharp knives in the second half, scoring 25 consecutive points beginning early in the third quarter and went on to defeat Bridgehampton, 67-41, Tuesday in the Suffolk CD final at Suffolk CCC-Selden.
Only 25¢ for 5 months

“Oh, wow! I didn’t know we did that,” exclaimed Greenport guard Jordan Fonseca, who scored 21 points and had seven assists. The Porters (21-2) scored the final 18 points of the third quarter to take a 49-28 lead and break open what had been a tight game. Fonseca began and ended that spurt with three-pointers.
At that point, you could stick a fork in the Killer Bees (8-11). They were done. “We just needed to be more competitive in the second half,” said Fonseca of Greenport’s 29-26 advantage at the break. “We brought the intensity and turned on the jets.”
Greenport, the Suffolk Class C champion, will play Center Moriches in the Suffolk BCD final at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Sachem North. Both teams also will play state regional semifinal games next month.
Ahkee Anderson scored 14 points, but sat out half of the game-breaking burst with foul trouble. Tyrus Smiley (12 points, eight rebounds) and Jude Swann (10 points, eight rebounds) gave Greenport an edge up front.
“I could see it and feel it early that this was a hangover game,” Greenport coach Ev Corwin said. “But in the second half we really shared the ball and got some easy baskets.”
It was a feast.
