The folks at Theatre Three are hoping Long Islanders will love the lineup for its 52nd season — starting with the musical chestnut "Guys and Dolls" — a bushel and a peck.

"This season we have everything from the traditional — 'Guys & Dolls,' 'A Christmas Carol' — to the outrageous," said Jeffrey Sanzel, executive artistic director of the Port Jefferson theater.

Frank Loesser's "Guys and Dolls," which features such familiar favorites as "Luck Be a Lady" and "Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat," kicks things off from Sept. 17 to Oct. 22. That will be followed by a Theatre Three perennial — "A Christmas Carol" starring Sanzel as Scrooge from Nov. 12 to Dec. 30. "The Sweet Delilah Swim Club," which Sanzel described as a "funny, lovely play in the spirit of 'Steel Magnolias,' " takes the stage from Jan. 14 to Feb. 4 followed by the musical revue "Side by Side by Sondheim" (Feb. 18-March 18).

"With 'Side by Side by Sondheim,' we are honoring the greatest composer of the American musical theater," Sanzel said. Stephen Sondheim died in November at age 91.

For Jane Austen-philes comes the Long Island premiere of "Pride@Prejudice," (April 7-May 6, 2023), a play that "honors both the text and spirit of Jane Austen's novel but with a whole new slant," Sanzel said.

Finishing up the season will be the raucous musical "Something Rotten" (May 20-June 24, 2023), which takes place in London during the time of William Shakespeare.
