Chick-fil-A opens in Rosedale, on Queens-Nassau border

The arrival of a new Chick-fil-A is always cause for celebration, wig-throwing, low-level fireworks and high-pitched shrieking, but the chain’s latest opening puts locals in the uncomfortable position of having to decide where their true loyalty lies — with Long Island or pressure-cooked fried chicken sandwiches. It’s a choice no one should ever have to make, but one that’s unavoidable given the establishment’s address. That would be 24923 Rockaway Blvd., which is in Rosedale, which is in Queens.
That address also puts the eatery oh-so-close to the border of Queens and Nassau Counties, so close that it might plausibly be nicknamed Chickpoint Charlie, so close that part of the parking lot is actually in Nassau. Woodmere, to be exact. Given that, some might argue that there is no real dilemma to consider here, as Islanders may easily order sandwiches from the Chick-fil-A app while parked, and then just wait for the restaurant to lob them across the lot. But this plan of attack will doubtless not satisfy purists, or anyone who likes shakes for that matter.
Nonetheless, the time for decision is now. Doors open as of 6:30 this morning.
The new Chick-fil-A is at 24923 Rockaway Blvd. in Rosedale. Opening hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday. The chain's other locations are in Commack, Farmingdale, Huntington Station, Port Jefferson, Smithtown and Westbury as well as within Roosevelt Field and Broadway malls.
