Upstate man backs into cop car during pursuit in Hicksville, Nassau police say
Nassau County police arrested an upstate man who officers said backed into a police car during a pursuit Friday and had to be subdued with a stun gun.
Police responded shortly after 6 a.m. Friday to Hicksville Middle School, where a 2018 Mercedes C43 was seen driving erratically in the parking lot, but had left before officers arrived, police said.
Police found the Mercedes, with front-end damage, driving on 6th Street. Officers attempted to stop the driver, but he sped away near Jerusalem Avenue and 8th Street, police said.
The driver crashed into a parked car and then backed into a Nassau police car, police said. Police tried to pull the man out of the car but police said he resisted.
Police said officers used a stun gun to subdue the man and make the arrest.
Mark Scott, 54, of Delhi, was charged with second-degree assault, attempted assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, criminal possession of a weapon and a controlled substance, resisting arrest and driving while ability impaired by drugs.
It was not immediately clear if he was represented by counsel.
A police officer was hospitalized with unspecified injuries following the arrest, police said. Scott was also hospitalized for evaluation.
Scott will be arraigned when medically cleared, police said.
