Kyle Wilson doesn’t always make his biggest impact on the scoresheet but the senior midfielder is always there when Farmingdale needs a big play.

Wilson had two goals and two assists as the Dalers defeated host Bethpage, 14-6, Tuesday in a Nassau non-league boys lacrosse game.

Wilson is this year’s recipient of the #40 John Krumenacker jersey tradition, given annually to the Farmingdale player who not only excels on the field but is also great in the classroom and an outstanding teammate.

Krumenacker was a standout lacrosse player who died in 1998 at the age of 34 after complications from pancreatitis.

“The guy who wears 40 is not always the best player,” Farmingdale coach Mike Hungerford said. “John Krumenacker was a great player, but 40 also represents who he was as a person. He was a friend to everyone on the team, worked every day, got the details right and cared about people. He was a great person who happened to be a great athlete. And that’s who Kyle Wilson is.”

Farmingdale took control of the game early and held a 7-2 lead in the third quarter before Bethpage’s Brian Luzzi, who had three goals and an assist, scored back-to-back goals to pull the Eagles to within 7-4.

Jack Agres answered late for the Dalers in the third and Wilson assisted on goals by Agres and James Hickis to retake control early in the fourth. Agres had three goals and Ryan Woodland added two goals and an assist for Farmingdale.

“It’s my honor to wear this jersey and represent something much greater than myself,” WIlson said. “I wear it with complete pride and I know that every time I step out on the field it’s my obligation to give it my all and to do that in the classroom and outside of sports as well.”

The Dalers (4-0) added four goals in the back half of the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.

“I think we’ve been more up than down this season but I don’t think we played our very best today,” Hungerford said. “They were a pretty game opponent and we knew they would give a great effort and they battled. We generated a bunch of offense and their goalie made a ton of saves.”

Joey Tesler was great in goal for Bethpage (0-5), making 17 saves.

“Coming off three big wins off the bat I feel like we played a little down today and had some mental mistakes,” Woodland said. “We just need to play smarter, keep the ball moving and things will come together.”
