A 9/11 poem: Apocalypse
Crash
Explode
Inferno
Disbelief
Rage
Fury
Horror
Icon lost
Rubble
Ruin
Endless search
Thousands perish (even now)
Dusty fog
City doomed
Hope lost
Faith shatters
Anger
Hate, hate RETALIATE!
Leaders quarrel
Wrong opponent
Bush whack war
Troops deploy
On the land
At the sea
In the air
Hate, hate
Retaliate!
Wrong time
Wrong land
Wrong man
Hussein
In vain!
Hate, hate RETALIATE!
Immoral acts
Defy democracy
Sweeping torture
Countries crumble
Family’s shatter
Children die
Women suffer
Men rape
Hate, hate RETALIATE!
Useless jargon
War Combat Confrontation
Enemy in chaos
Weapons
Campaigns lost
Trillions gone
Tainted hearts
TAPS too often
Limbs vanish
Psyche poisoned
Forever alter
Soldier’s return
Losing faith
Hate, hate RETALIATE!
Ten years later
A decade lost
Anguish pervades
We thrust
Power and beliefs
On foreign soil
For naught
Let them be
Where no one wins
Rule not the fate
Let’s stop the hate
The insidious need
to RETALIATE!
For the people!
By the people!
Not for you
Not for me
Hear ye, hear ye
Those who rule DC
