'It's very upsetting'

In an interview with Newsday, Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen Wilutis admits "it's sad to say" that the shock effect of the cases that come before her has worn off.

A guilty verdict on the crimes before her can result in 25 years behind bars with 25 years post-supervision, Wilutis said.

'These are extremely serious crimes'

Sometimes, potential jurors on one of her sex abuse cases will privately divulge that they, too, had been the victim of sex abuse, Wilutis said.
