FNBNY Bancorp named two new executives Thursday for their commercial banking business First National Bank of New York.
John Stewart was appointed chief executive of First National Bank of New York and Stella Mendes was named president.
Mendes has the distinction of being the first female to hold the position of president at a Long Island bank, the company noted in a news release. She joined FNBNY after the company acquired Madison National Bank in April -- Mendes was formerly an executive vice president at Madison.
Stewart has worked with FNBNY since the company began, and has previously served in top executive roles at Citibank.
First National Bank of New York is based in Melville, and operates three branches in Merrick, Melville and Massapequa.
