2 LI companies receive venture-capital funding
Two Long Island companies received venture-capital funding in the second quarter, extending the Island's winning streak this year, according to a report released Wednesday.
MightyMeeting Inc., a Setauket company whose software powers mobile Power Point presentations, received $310,000 in venture capital funding, according to the MoneyTree Report, from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association.
Northport-based Ixtens Inc., an Internet-services firm that helps companies do business across multiple sites, didn't disclose how much it obtained. Ixtens will disclose that in an announcement later this month, said the company's founder and chief executive Eugene Nikiforov.
MightyMeeting founder and chief executive Dmitri Tcherevik was the chief technology officer at Fat Wire Corp., a Mineola software developer. MightyMeeting couldn't be reached for comment.
Two Long Island companies also received funding in the first quarter, bringing the year's total so far to four. Just one Long Island company received funding in all of last year.
Metropolitan area companies received $381 million in funding in the second quarter, up 38 percent from $276 million in the second quarter of 2009, when the economy was mired in the recession. The number of companies obtaining funding jumped to 93 from 54.
